How We Met

DSC01525_edited.jpg

Gilles from Paris and Kristy from San Francisco, both were born into international communities and always had their eyes set on parts unknown. Gilles had dreamt and trained for work throughout all parts of Europe, while Kristy had spoken of her dream of working and living in Japan for as long as she could remember.

Fate, however, had other plans and pulled both our bride and groom to Saint Louis, Missouri to work for the same company after they graduated from college in 2017.

They first crossed paths when Kristy was asked by a colleague to show Gilles where the coffee room was. After, Gilles began making frequent (and admittedly unnecessary) trips to his coworker's cubicle just to see her and say hello. He made several attempts to get her attention, which she interpreted as attempts to practice his English with a native speaker.

Later realizing that he would need to be more assertive to convey his growing affections, Gilles asked Kristy to join him for a beer at the Urban Chestnut Brewery (her favorite!) after work one day. She gleefully accepted, touched that he trusted her enough to practice his English with outside of work.

It would be embarrassing to count how many "English study dates" it took for Kristy to see Gilles' romantic intent, but suffice it to say that she did indeed get the message. Eventually.

How We Got Engaged

Gilles and Kristy travelled to Lebanon and Morocco in the Summer of 2019 to visit his extended family and attend a wedding. Little did Kristy know that Gilles had been carrying a ring in his pocket the entire trip, looking for the right moment to propose.

After a week in Beirut, they headed to the beach in Rabat, Morocco. Spending the week exploring historical sites and swimming in the ocean, Gilles still hadn't found the right moment to pop the question. His time running short, it wasn't until they were packing to head back to the States that he found his opportunity.

He asked Kristy if she wouldn't mind taking a few more photos of the beach, just a few short steps outside of the door to their hotel room. A little surprised that he hadn't taken such photos himself, Kristy grabbed her phone and did her best to capture a few last shots of the beautiful ocean. A few snaps and moments later, Gilles called Kristy's name, and she turned behind to find Gilles on one knee.

Completely surprised, Kristy responded by throwing her phone at Gilles and a loud "are you f*cking sure?". After twenty minutes of happy tears, Kristy eventually managed to get out a (barely) coherent "yes".
